Young Flower

After street painting and working from recreating masterpieces, I often wonder how they affect my work. What influence, if any is present.

So many hours are spent studying how the masters approached drawing, composition, values, edges, color, their ideas seep into the subconscious.

I am certain that practicing drawing and training the mind and eye for so many hours has to make some kind of difference, at least I hope so.

I think that studying the old masters is bound to affect your work, because the awareness of context, previous traditions and methods all play a part in how you paint. But they also combine with your personal inspiration, preventing influence from becoming overpowering. It's definitely valuable, but it's not everything.

There are many ways to arrive at a goal. I street paint the old masters to learn from them, study their incredible insights and then explore on my own.

Knowledge gained from the past, coupled with imagination,
personal and spiritual investigation are the ingredients of my art.

Nothing is an end all in my book.
